In 2024, during his senior year of high school, Adrian Alvarez launched Eras Shorts with a vision: to create high-quality, affordable athletic shorts that young athletes would actually be excited to wear.
At the time, Adrian was balancing school with club volleyball and high school varsity volleyball. His passion for the game gave him firsthand insight into what was missing from the athleticwear market.
Adrian noticed that young volleyball players wanted more than another pair of basic athletic shorts. They were looking for shorts that performed well on the court, felt comfortable throughout the day, and reflected their generation’s sense of style. He was tired of seeing the same plain colors, basic prints, and uninspired designs that did not appeal to younger athletes.
That frustration became the inspiration for Eras Shorts.
Turning an Idea Into a Real Product
Adrian attended his first product-sourcing trade show with his family and discovered that he could create the volleyball shorts he had been searching for.
He began learning about athletic fabrics, construction, manufacturing, printing, and product design. After testing different materials, he found the fabric that offered the comfort, flexibility, durability, and performance he wanted. He also located a manufacturer capable of bringing his original designs to life.
With a $30,000 family loan and a passion for this new era of his life, Adrian took a major leap and officially launched Eras Shorts.
The risk paid off.
During its first year in business, Eras Shorts generated more than $100,000 in sales and became profitable. The early response showed Adrian that other athletes had been searching for the same thing: premium-quality shorts with bold designs at an accessible price.
That success gave him the confidence to expand the product line and continue building the brand.
Growing Eras Shorts in Sacramento
As demand increased, Adrian established the Eras Shorts distribution center in Sacramento, California. He hired a team to manage customer service and fulfill orders, helping ensure that customers receive responsive support and fast shipping.
What started as an idea from a high school volleyball player was quickly becoming a growing athleticwear company with customers, teams, and supporters across the country.
Every part of the business continued to reflect Adrian’s original vision: create products athletes can perform in, live in, and feel confident wearing.
Building a Brand While Attending College
During his second year in business, Adrian began his college studies at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business.
Today, he continues to manage the Eras brand while attending SCU. He oversees product design, inventory orders, branding, marketing, and the overall direction of the company, all while balancing the responsibilities of being a full-time college student.
The lessons Adrian learns in the classroom support the business he is building in real life. At the same time, operating Eras gives him hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, supply-chain management, marketing, customer service, product development, and leadership.
What Makes Eras Shorts Different?
Eras Shorts is different from many men’s athleisure brands because it was created by an athlete and student who genuinely understands what young men want from a hybrid short.
Adrian did not build the brand by guessing what athletes needed. He built it from his own experience on the volleyball court.
Eras Shorts are designed to deliver the qualities today’s athletes value most:
High-quality, performance-focused materials
Comfortable fits made for movement
Versatile designs that transition beyond the court
Bold prints that stand out from basic athleticwear
Accessible prices for students and young athletes
Fast fulfillment from our Sacramento distribution center
Eras shorts are made for volleyball practice, training sessions, workouts, travel, school, and everyday life. They combine athletic performance with the style and versatility of a modern hybrid short.
Welcome to a New Era
For Adrian, the name Eras represents growth, change, and the courage to enter a new stage of life.
Launching a company as a high school senior required him to take a risk, trust his instincts, and turn his passion into something bigger than himself. What began with a $30,000 family loan and a desire for better volleyball shorts has grown into a profitable brand with its own team, distribution center, expanding product line, and loyal community.
Adrian’s journey is still just beginning.
As Eras Shorts continues to grow, its mission remains the same: to create high-quality, affordable, and original athletic shorts designed by an athlete, for athletes, and for everyone ready to step into their next era.
